A mile east of Canary Beach Resort, is the Centennial
Trail. This 20 mile paved scenic bike trail starts in
Villard and goes between Lake Villard and Lake Amelia, and
then continues to Starbuck.
Villard is home for "Pottyville," a unique village of
retired outhouses with different themes. On the Road with
Jason Davis visited Nell Riccatone's creation, which is free
and brings a smile and laughter to those who stop by.
Carlos Creek Winery is located on 160 acres, north of
Alexandria, with complimentary tours offered year round. It
is home of the United State's largest permanent maze and
wine cave.Pope County Museum is located in
Glenwood and is open year round. The mission of the Pope
County Historical Society is to foster among people an
awareness of Pope County History so that they may draw
strength and perspective from the past and find purpose for
the future.
Located 12 miles south of Glenwood is Terrace Mill and
the Terrance Mill Historic District, featuring a 1903
Vintage Flour Mill, Keystone Arch Bridge, Weir Dam, Mill
Cabins. Log Cabin and a Heritage Cottage. All are set in a
picturesque valley along the Chippewa River.
Erickson's Petting Zoo, located west of Osakis, is
a 97 year old farmstead, home to pygmy goats, sheep,
miniature horses, a llama, potbelly pigs, rabbits, chickens,
ducks, geese, peacocks, and more.
Runestone Museum is located in downtown
Alexandria. One can tour historic Fort Alexandria, take a
picture with the country's biggest Viking and see the world
famous Kensington Runestone.
America's first Nobel Prize winner was Sinclair Lewis.
His boyhood home and the Sinclair Lewis interpretive
Center can be found in Sauk Centre.
Minnesota Lakes Martime Museum is located in downtown
Alexandria and their highlighted boats include an 1884
electric ELCO yacht, The Naphtha Launch, and a 1907 Fay &
Bowen. History of Larson boats and Douglas County resorts
can also be discovered here!
Indoor water park, Big Splash, features three
exhilarating 4-story slides, 'Lazy River', whirlpool spa and
children's play fort. Big Splash is located in Alexandria.
Casey's Amusement Park features mini golf, batting
cages, go-carts, water wars and bumper boats. All this fun
is located in Alexandria.
Viking Speedway is a ½ mile semi-banked clay oval
that that races five WISSOTA sanctioned classes, every
Saturday night from the end of April through Labor Day,
including the Viking Fall Classic in October.
Golf courses are plentiful in our area. Rodina Golf
Course is the closest golf course to Canary Beach
Resort, yet the following are also in the area: Red Rock
Golf Course, Pine Ridge Golf, Praire View Community Golf
Course, Pezhekee Golf Course, Minnewaska Golf Course, Lynz
Golf course, Geneva Golf Course, and Arrowwood Golf Course.
Get your bowl on at Garden Center Lanes in
Alexandria. Bowling is always a family favorite!
Horseback Riding may be enjoyed at Arrowwood stables
in Alexandria. Andes Tower Hills is a ski,
snowboard, and tubing destination located in Kensington.
They also have Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing trails.
Offering Day and Night Cruises on Lake Minnewaska in
Glenwood is Torgy's Fun Country Houseboat! This 56
foot adventure hosts Public Evening Cruises, Sunday Brunch
Cruises and Private Party Cruise with meals and a cash bar.
